EigenCloud Takes Its AI-Agent Infrastructure Push to Seoul

EigenCloud gathered builders, researchers, and investors in Seoul in late April 2026 for a focused event on the emerging layer where AI agents operate not just as automated tools, but as economic actors capable of owning assets and executing contracts autonomously.

The event, titled "Agentic by Eigen: Seoul Edition," was structured as a working session rather than a broad conference. Organizers said the goal was to surface real bottlenecks, not showcase finished products. Two keynote sessions anchored the agenda: EigenCloud General Manager Su Yang opened with his framing of "agentic companies," and Bulgami followed with a breakdown of capital flows between the AI and crypto sectors.

Yang's central argument was blunt: "AI makes agents intelligent. Crypto makes agents investable." A second framing from EigenCloud pushed further: "If YouTube turned media into software, agentic companies turn companies into software." The underlying thesis is that AI agents are crossing a threshold from running tasks to participating in economic life, and that crypto infrastructure (programmable payments, on-chain identity, verifiable execution) provides the accountability layer that makes that possible.

Bulgami described AI and crypto as complementary rather than competing: "AI provides intelligence, while crypto ensures verifiability and economic alignment." Participant discussions that followed focused on specific unresolved problems: how agents should hold and transfer assets, what identity frameworks apply to non-human actors, how agents can make payments without exposing credentials, and what permission structures allow software to take consequential actions safely. The key takeaway from those sessions, per organizers, was that "the gap exists in infrastructure, not imagination."

The Seoul event arrived as the broader industry was moving quickly. By April 2026, an estimated 95% of crypto-focused hedge funds had adopted agentic AI architectures, according to Coincub. Coinbase launched Agentic Wallets in February 2026, and BNB Chain deployed autonomous agent payment infrastructure the same month. The ERC-8004 standard, which creates verifiable on-chain identities for AI agents, has further accelerated that shift, placing EigenCloud's infrastructure work in the middle of a fast-moving, industry-wide transition rather than at its fringe.

What EigenCloud Is and What It Has Built

EigenCloud rebranded from EigenLayer, Ethereum's largest restaking protocol, in June 2025. Restaking allows users to redeploy staked ETH to secure additional networks, generating additional yield while extending Ethereum's economic security to other infrastructure. The company has since built out a four-layer stack: EigenLayer (the restaking base), EigenDA (a data availability layer running at 100 MB/s throughput, backed by more than 4 million restaked ETH across 100-plus operators), EigenCompute (containerized app execution inside trusted execution environments), and EigenAI (deterministic AI inference compatible with the OpenAI API format).

Trusted execution environments, the core of EigenCompute's infrastructure model, carry demonstrated security risks. A TEE key custody exploit at Taiko in June 2026 underscored those risks directly; analysts flagged it as a cautionary data point for any compute stack built on TEE foundations.

In March 2026, EigenCloud launched AgentKit Beta, a developer toolkit that bundles compute, persistent agent wallets, USDC payments, and AI inference routing into one framework. The product launched with nine live agents. Revenue comes from a 1% margin on AI inference calls passed through to providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, and Gemini.

The company has raised $234.5 million in total, including a $100 million Series B in early 2024 and a $70 million direct EIGEN token purchase by a16z crypto in June 2025, alongside backing from Blockchain Capital, Polychain Capital, and Coinbase Ventures.

Token Context

EIGEN was trading around $0.176 during the Seoul event, with a market cap of approximately $121.9 million, against a backdrop of downward pressure from a $6.5 million token unlock in early April and a $300 million DeFi exploit at Kelp DAO on April 19. As of August 2026, EIGEN trades at approximately $0.2303, with a 24-hour volume near $37.4 million and a market cap of roughly $201.9 million.

TVL across EigenCloud's restaking base has declined from an all-time high of $19.7 billion to approximately $5 billion as of July 2026. Part of that decline reflects a concrete competitive shift: ether.fi removed most of its restaking exposure from EigenLayer and redirected it to Symbiotic, leaving less than 1% of ether.fi assets restaked with EigenLayer. That realignment by one of the space's larger participants helps explain why Symbiotic, EigenCloud's nearest competitor at around $329 million in TVL, is drawing increasing attention. EigenCloud still holds more than 90% of the Ethereum restaking market, but the ether.fi move signals that the competitive landscape is beginning to fragment.

EigenCloud's verifiable compute stack also operates in a contested field. Phala, Oasis, and iExec offer TEE-based alternatives. Ritual, Gensyn, and 0G are building AI-native compute infrastructure. RISC Zero and Succinct are advancing zero-knowledge proof approaches as an alternative to trusted execution environments entirely. EigenCloud's advantage lies in its integration depth across restaking security, data availability, and compute, but developer adoption in this space remains actively contested.

Seoul as a Builder Hub, and What It Means Beyond Korea

EigenCloud's choice of Seoul was not incidental. The city is functioning as one of Asia's most active AI-plus-crypto convergence points in 2026. BUIDL Asia ran in April with an explicit AI-Web3 agenda, and Korea Blockchain Week is scheduled for late September. South Korea's regulatory environment is also moving in a direction favorable to infrastructure builders: the Digital Asset Basic Act is expected to pass in the second half of 2026, a tokenized securities framework is already in effect, and the government is piloting tokenized bond issuance in 2027. A proposed amendment to the National Asset Basic Law would formally classify crypto within the state's asset management framework. Crypto capital gains tax has been deferred to 2027, meaning Korean participants currently face no tax liability on digital asset gains.

The commercial backdrop reinforces Seoul's relevance. South Korea's top 18 Web3 startups have collectively raised $557 million, and Toss, the country's dominant fintech platform with 30 million users, is building a proprietary Layer 1 blockchain mainnet. Together, those data points illustrate how deeply crypto infrastructure has penetrated the Korean technology mainstream, well beyond regulatory posture alone.

The infrastructure questions raised in Seoul apply well beyond Korea. Developers in Lagos, Nairobi, Bengaluru, and Karachi face the same stack-level problems when building agentic applications: verifiable compute, programmable dollar payments, and identity frameworks for software-run actors. EigenCloud's AgentKit, with its USDC payment rail, is particularly relevant in markets where programmable dollar-denominated payments address gaps that legacy banking cannot fill. Animoca Brands chairman Yat Siu framed the ownership stakes clearly: "Without ownership frameworks and crypto wallets, the value AI agents generate flows back to whichever centralized platform hosts them."

EigenCloud has not yet announced comparable focused events in South Asian or African developer hubs. Korea Blockchain Week in September will serve as the next public gauge of whether the agentic infrastructure thesis is gaining traction with one of the regional builder communities central to the platform's adoption case.
